There were seven original mounds: a straight-winged bird, a fox or wolf, and linear mounds in excess of 450 feet in length.  Over the decades, most of the land around the mounds has been quarried for sand and gravel, destroying some mounds and their original landscape, leaving only two effigy mounds, a bird and a partial fox, on a high earthen pedestal.
